Meg’s Chapter April 2026
An Update
We had a great turnout for our author event with Ali Lowe discussing her 5th novel The Second Wife, a twisty murder set on the cruise liner Titan Pacifica. It was a lively discussion with Kate Horan asking Ali how she came up with the idea and her love of reading Agatha Christie who set her on a crime writing path. Ali explained why each of the names of the characters has something to do with the Ocean. See my take on it below.
There was a full house at our free Writing your Memoir workshop celebrating Seniors Week. We asked participants to bring along an item/photo to spark a memory to get the words flowing and flow they did. It was an interactive two hours with everyone writing and sharing their memories. Tea and Lumberjack cake certainly helped!
Our next author event is Natasha Lester discussing her latest historical fiction novel, The Chateau on Sunset with Joanna Nell. Also be sure to catch Candice Fox discussing Redbelly Crossing with Micheal Robotham in April. That’s two very exciting authors coming to you from the Avalon Community Library with more to come over the next few months.

On My Bookshelf

What else but The Second Wife. Ali’s sparking dialogue brings out the all the infighting of the wealthy Fairchild family, while luxuriating on the opulent Deck Nine on the Titan Pacifica. Did I guess who did the dastardly deed or deeds? No, I did not. I was too engrossed in the characters and plot and got carried along until they revealed all. Grab your copy at the library or a bookshop near you for a wild ride. 5*s from me.

Always Home, Always Homesick.
Hannah Kent’s amazing memoir that has been sitting on my shelf for some time. I listened to the audio book with Hannah Kent reading the story. I found it enhanced the story to have the author pronounce the Icelandic words, using the paper book as a companion. Hannah was a 17 year old exchange student when she first arrived in Iceland. The memoir follows her journey from that time to writing her first best-selling novel The Burial Rites. Which I must admit I have never read, so now it’s on top of my TBR pile. If you love a memoir this one is for you.
Definitely a 5* read.
