Meg’s Chapter

Meg’s Chapter No. 5

An Update

At the end of May we hosted Kate Solly who came all the way from Melbourne to discuss her latest release The Paradise Heights Miniature Railway Bust-Up. This is Kate’s second novel featuring Fleck Parker, a mum, a crafter and amateur detective. With Sandie Docker asking the questions we had a lovely evening discussing how Kate creates her everyday characters in her cosy crime novels, her love of writing and wrangling family with her career as a novelist.

In June we hosted Amanda Hampson discussing with Joanna Nell her latest Tea Ladies mystery The Model Murder. So many of our regular local attendees were in the audience and what a treat it was to hear Amanda discuss how she keeps coming up with more crimes for these ladies to solve. And there will be another Tea Ladies next year, her last. But don’t worry Amanda already has another series in mind. It was so lovely to have Amanda back in her old ‘hood.

Like Follow Die

By Ashley Kalagian Blunt

Like Follow Die is by Ashley Kalagian Blunt who we hosted last month. This is a page turner and very plausible in this era of children’s access to social media. I don’t want to give away any spoilers. Benjamin Gray lives in Sydney in an expensive part of town with his Mum, Corinne and has many advantages of a good school. A murder introduces us to Detective Kyle Nazarian and his rather arrogant colleague. Intertwined within the story is a complex murder mystery bringing all the elements of the story together. This is a well written novel, looks at the relationship between parents and their children and the responsibility they bear. Highly recommend this.

I won’t give any spoilers away. If you have read the other three Tea Ladies cosy crime you will know that Hazel, Betty, Merl and Irene are back fighting the good fight against those criminals that lurk in the darkest corners of Surry Hills, garment district in 1968. It was like getting a warm hug from four of my very favourite characters.
