Meg’s Chapter

Meg’s Chapter No. 4

An Update

Another wonderful full house with Avalon Community Library presenting Deborah Lawrie discussing her memoir Touching the Sky with Claudine Tinelles. This is an engaging read and well written with a remarkable story of a courageous woman breaking barriers to become Australia’s first woman commercial pilot and is still flying today. With great questions from Claudine the audience was entertained by Deborah’s telling of her amazing life.

Last night we were happy to host Ashley Kalagian Blunt discussing her new novel Like Follow Die with Michelle Barraclough. This is a psychological thriller which is what Ashley is known for. Another entertaining night with a great author. I’ve just started on the audio book and I’m hooked.

Touching the Sky

By Deborah Lawrie

I read this book in a day and a half. One of those reads that isn’t easy to put down. Deborah’s remarkable court case with Ansett Airlines back in the 1970s was headline news for weeks on end. As Deborah discussed she didn’t realise it would go on for so long. However she has had the last laugh as the Deborah Lawrie Flyover is above the Sir Reginald Ansett Drive.

Elizabeth II In Private. In Public. The Inside Story.

By Robert Hardman.

This is an odd choice for me as I’m not a royalist but I heard a review and decided to give it a go. Being busy at this time I choose the audio book. It’s a fascinating look at the Queen across her entire life covering much of what I remember being reported at the time. With a lovely English accent to go with the audio I am finding it thoroughly escapist and enjoyable.
